Why I Chose To Go Greek

Let's go Greek.

I recently decided to join a sorority this semester and shocked a few people in doing so. I decided to go Greek this semester because I have tried countless times and just didn't find a sorority that I really liked or even felt at home in. I also had friends in Greek life that would talk about the various things they would do or the community service they would give and it sounded fun. I went to Round Robin at my school and finally found a sorority that I fit into. I found Alpha Sigma Tau and was instantly in love.

I chose to go Greek because I am a commuter and it is hard for me to make friends or even be a little social. I am a very anti-social person to begin with, so with that being said, I suck at making friends. I went Greek so that I could meet new people and to make everlasting friendships.

I also chose to go Greek because I want to get more involved with my community and didn't know how to go about that. The sorority that I chose does Habitat for Humanity, SafeNet, and a few others that would greatly impact the way that I look at the world and humankind. I wanted something that would not just impact myself, but others around me.

I chose Greek life also because I wanted to have fun, and what better way than making everlasting friendships and to do various activities. I don't know what is in store for me (nothing bad I hope), but I can not wait to see what will happen.

Honestly, I have always wanted to be in a sorority and now that I finally am, I am so excited for the journey that is ahead of me, for all the new people I will meet, and all the lives I may touch with the community service I will be doing.

I don't think it's about the parties or how it will look on a resume. It is about the people you meet you and how you can improve yourself and those people you surround yourself with.

I joined a sorority so that I could be apart of something bigger and I am so glad that I did. I am excited for the journey, the people I will meet, the things I will do and most importantly the friendships I will make. I chose Greek Life, maybe you will too.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
