When I was 14, I decided I was going to attend a performing arts high school. Little did I know it would be the best experience I have had.
At a performing arts school, you get the privilege of doing something you are passionate for every day. You have the arts incorporated in every subject. Art is the big binder between everyone, even though we may do something different.
Performing arts high schools tend to be more open and diverse, which taught me a whole lot. The openness also brought a sense of community to us. We stood for what we believed no matter what. We all had a voice and were always heard.
Another perk was the size. Being that we were a small school, you knew everyone and everyone knew you. The teachers also knew you well and cared. They always took the extra step to be a part of our lives, even outside of school.
School was a home away from home; a place where art was happening all around you; where singing in the hallways or lunchroom happened a lot. I would do anything to have one more day there.
