If you are anything like me, you are always thinking about the future. Its hard not to. There are always things to think about or look forward to. I am always thinking about what my weekend plans are, what bills need to be paid, and what important events are coming up in my life. It has been like that for me for as long as I can remember.
Even in high school, and now into college, I rarely enjoyed my time because I was constantly stressing about tests, sports or rehearsals. Looking back, I miss those moments and wish I wouldn't have taken them for granted.
I think it is a struggle for a lot of us because we always want the next phase of our life to be here. But now is the most important time. This moment. I am working on understanding that each moment, good or bad, is a chance to learn and grow. I took a moment at work the other day to stop and enjoy the fact that I really like my job! I stopped, took a breath and let myself just relax for a moment. This is the oldest, and youngest, that I will ever be. This moment and these people will never be the same. I may not be where I want to be right now, but that doesn't mean that there are not a million happy moments. It's the little things like spending a night watching movies with your roommates, arguing with your dad about sports, or talking to your sister in the Air Force that make up your path. Every little moment adds up to create an extraordinary life.
I have found that the less I am worrying about the future, the happier I am becoming. There will always be bills to pay and work to be done, but try to remember that those are not the parts of life that will make yours worth living. Your hopes and dreams, as well as the beauty in each day, are what you will want to remember someday. Today, and every day after, I am deciding to live in the moment. The future will be here before you know it. Make the most of now.
