In the young adult novel "Throne of Glass" by Sarah J. Maas, when the King of Adarlan holds a competition to find a personal assassin, his son, the prince, chooses Celaena as his champion and tells her that if she wins the competition and takes the job, she can be free after a few years. Craving independence, Celaena leaves the salt mines of Endovier and heads to the glass castle in Adarlan to compete. Here's why she's such a compelling character.

1) She's the best and most feared assassin in the world

Arobynn Hamel, head of the Assasin's Guild, found Celaena abandoned as a child, so he took her in and mentored her.

2) She has a soft spot for puppies

When Celaena discovers a kennel of puppies at the glass castle, she adopts one and names it Fleetfoot.

3) She survived a death camp

For her crimes as an assassin, Celaena was sent to Endovier, a salt mine, to work until she died.

4) Reading is one of her favorite hobbies

Her first night at the castle, before the first round of the competition, she reads. Plus she spends her remaining earnings she didn't use for clothes to buy new books.

5) She freed a bunch of slaves

When her former boss Arobynn sent her to buy slaves from the Pirate Lord as payment for three of his assassins' deaths, she frees them instead.

6) She spends her income on beautiful clothes

Celaena is the perfect example of a woman that can be both tough and girly.

Celaena always has a witty comeback and keeps people around her on their toes.

8) She's gorgeous and she knows it

Nearly every other YA heroine is insecure about their looks or unaware of their own beauty, but not Celaena.

9) She's a true friend

When she meets Nehemia, a princess visiting from the neighboring kingdom of Eyllwe, they become friends instantly. Celaena teaches Nehemia Adarlan's language and always made sure to put her first before any boy.

10) She's super brave

As she was being carted off to Endovier, she said to herself, "My name is Celaena Sardothien, and I will not be afraid." You got to give her props for keeping up her courage even as she was hurtling towards a death camp. Even though Celaena didn't think she would ever be free again, she refused to give in to fear.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
