Let’s Be Civil:
We all know that you can’t fight fire with fire because the flame will only get bigger and cause more destruction. There are people like myself who have to painfully watch violent protesters put to shame those of us who, amidst the havoc and craziness of the results of this election, only want a peaceful and non-violent form of protest. Do not get me wrong, the fact that people feel compelled to protest violently has to mean something much greater than the extremist form of thought. Sadly, people within our beautiful nation are afraid for what lies in the future and to be honest so am I. But if there is anything that makes me fear even more is the way people have begun to react to this election and Mr. Trump is not even in office yet. A retaliation or response to a protest with more hate brings about no good. Mr. Trump was good in saying that people who supported him and people who were against him NEED to find common ground and hope for a better future.
Everyone Deserves the Chance to Prove Themselves.
First of all, Congratulations Mr. Trump on your victory, I hope that you will strive to be the best president this nation has ever seen in a peaceful and reasonable manner. Although people argue that you have no political background and question your methods, I for one, am encouraged to have faith in you. I appreciate what you represent in today's day and age, a change. A change that the people have clearly spoken for and one that cries out for help from the all time “typical” politician. It seems to me that the many people have already begun to give up and condemn Mr. Trump when he is not even in office yet. I believe it is time to become a positive society, one that needs no “safe spaces” to talk but rather be able to have mature debates. We have become too weak and accustomed to getting what we want that those who did are immature enough to rub it in peoples faces and those who didn’t are stupid enough to resort to violence and hatred. STOP reaching to conclusions and give the man a chance to be in office. Quick parenthesis:
- This past summer I worked with court adjudicated kids at Ocean Tides School. In my time there I learned many life lessons among them: When someone is acting in a set mindset that is not beneficial for all, the worst way to work with that person is to contradict and force him to change. Rather, it is more efficient to understand why the mindset exists and how it came to be, then proceed to work with the person to change set mindset. You have to be able and willing to work with people. I have friends who supported Trump and friends who supported Hillary and they were able to get along just fine. Not because someone supports a candidate means he/she is a racist bigot. It is not accepting other views that contradict yours, rather learning to understand them and finding common ground.
NOTHING, absolutely nothing constitutes the burning of ANY flag.
The ignorance behind the act itself is painful to watch. Its hard to explain the anger and disappointment I feel every time I watch a flag burning to the ground. Its even ironical: people are able to do this excruciating act thanks to the people who risk their lives on a daily basis to protect freedom. With this in mind, NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING constitutes the burning of any flag. In the most sincere and direct way, stop. This ignorance will eventually catch up to you and I hope that when it does, you come to your senses and make the best out of the situation. That same flag you burn is the one that protects you from getting your faced caved in; it’s the flag for which people have given up their privileges so that you can go about your day. Look up the meaning of a flag before you burn it, research the way it came to be and what was loss because of it as well as what was gained, investigate what it means to people who hold it dear to their lives; THEN if that is not enough to stop you from doing it, do society a favor and check yourself into a mental institution. You don't have to agree with what a flag symbolizes but you have to respect what it means to someone else. Burning it does nothing but create hate.
Finally, everything in this life has to be balanced once we begin to abuse or become extremists in our beliefs and ways we become a problem. Everything in excess is bad. Stop hating on those who lost and stop hating on those who won, lets work towards making this country one in which our kids can be proud of.
