Once upon a time there was 18 yr old girl who was desperate to leave home and go to off to college. That girl found herself knees deep in rich tradition and campus pride at Abilene Christian University, and she LOVED it.
That girl was me.
Now, as a senior, I have learned so much from my little private college and even my little college town. I have been taught and formed by so many amazing professors, and even by the ones I didn't agree with or get along with. I can tell you where to eat in town, I can point you to some lesser known but totally cool hangouts. I can pretty easily navigate through the city, and know multiple ways to get to any one place.
I have learned about and met with some of the coolest ACU alum. Alum who are out there doing amazing things. The kinds of things I want to do. I have met a woman who designs fancy wedding plates for Disney and made sure that some of the profits went to helping put an end to child slave labor in third world countries. I have heard the Brantley's speak, heard them talk about how God has worked in their lives. I have seen ACU alum go off to play in the NFL. I have met ACU alum committed to helping new students find their place.
I have some big shoes to fill now, as a soon to be a graduate of ACU. I am ready to go and do big things with my life. I am ready to work with people and be both a blessing and be blessed by those I help. I am ready to go out and help children in their need. I am ready to leave my small college town and go do big things.
I am ready to do the little things it will take to get to wherever I am going. I am ready to think through the challenges that come up along the way. I will miss the community of being on campus, I will miss my friends. But I know that they will always be a phone call away.
It's hard not to be ready when I had such great preparation.
