Why I Cannot Wait To Go Back To College

If you're anything like me, you've been daydreaming about returning to college the second summer started. It has been a long few months of missing your college friends and the social life that college entails. Some of you may have even had to return to the ruling of your parents if you went back home for the summer. Needless to say, we are all ecstatic to return to college. If you aren't, then you go to the wrong school. As my last few days come to an end, though, I'm starting to remember the more brutal aspects of college, and remembering what exactly it is that I am going back to.

Prepare to be financially unstable again because you've had the luxury of working all summer but that is now going away and if you're dumb like me then you just studied abroad and spent all your money so now you're going back to college extra broke which sucks because how are you supposed to buy late night pizza all the time and you won't have time to work because you'll be in class all the time which will be hard to focus on since the weather is still so summery and when you aren't in class you are doing homework or writing papers or studying for exams or crying about how you aren't doing your homework or writing your papers or studying for your exams and then there is the likelihood that your exams won't go as well as you hoped which means that next time you need to do even more studying which you don' have time for still because if you're like me then you are in a sorority and have Monday night dinners and formals and socials and philanthropy events and you might just want to have any executive position because that'll look good on a resume so just ignore the fact that you still don't have time for that and do it anyways oh and since you are so forward thinking about your resume then you might as well join a few extra clubs and associations because you're thinking they only meet once a week and then at this point you realize that if you had cut the multiple extracurricular activities you probably could have just gotten a job but you didn't so you're broke and now you have negative time and have given up sleep entirely and devoted your life to coffee and espresso and hope with all your might that you can at least use your weekends to relax since you are insanely busy during the week but wait you can't do that either because football games and tailgating which there is always time for and (sigh) ......

maybe I can wait a little bit to start college again.

Nah, who am I kidding. I'm still ecstatic. I'll meet you at the tailgate.

Parks and Recreation excitedly gathered around a laptop at a table in an office setting.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
