Why We Cannot Live In Fear

If we live in fear, they win.

Why We Cannot Live In Fear

With all that has been going on in the world, it is hard to say that it doesn’t cause a little bit of fear in all of us. However, we cannot let that fear control our lives and we can’t stay bundled up in our homes. After the recent hit on Nice, France, my mom looked at me and said that maybe I wouldn’t be going to Ireland; I said that yes I would if I had the opportunity. I’ve been considering going on a study abroad trip to Ireland during my junior year of college. It seems like an amazing opportunity to see a different part of the world. These major attacks do cause me to have a little bit of doubt, but what is life without doubt? If you aren’t doubting every move, are you even human?

If we let fear control our lives and every move we make, we aren’t living. There is a risk in everything you do. Getting in your car to go to the grocery store can be a risk or going into the ocean to cool off could be a risk -- you may get caught in a rip current or get bitten by a shark, but it’s 102 degrees out and you might cook if you don’t get in the water.

If we live in fear, they win. Whoever it is, wherever you are, if you live in fear you are controlled by the person/people causing you to fear. They want you to be afraid, it gives them power and makes them feel dominant. Whatever you do in life, never be submissive -- you are the only person who can control you. Humans are strong. We overcome so many obstacles in our lives that we might as well treat ourselves by being happy and enjoying what this world has to offer.

I recently read the novel “Me Before You” and I know that some of you may thinking how awful it is that I read it or that I’m cliché for reading it, but that’s fine. The novel had a tagline of “Live boldly” and I think that is a great tagline for a novel and movie. It reminds people that no matter what may happen in your life or what is happening in the world you have to remember to live your life. There is no need to spend your life living in a bubble pretending that the world doesn’t exist. No matter who you are you can’t deny that there isn’t one place outside of your home that you want to see. This world is full of amazing places and amazing people, to deny that you never want to see any of it is a lie to others and yourself.

Go on the trip that you have been saving or planning for a lifetime, you only get one life so you might as well live it to the fullest.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!

There is nothing quite like family.

Family is kinda like that one ex that you always find yourself running back to (except without all the regret and the angsty breakup texts that come along with it).

No matter how long your class is, there's always time for the mind to wander. Much like taking a shower or trying to fall asleep, sitting in a classroom can be a time when you get some of your best ideas. But, more than likely, you're probably just trying to mentally cope with listening to a boring lecturer drone on and on. Perhaps some of the following Aristotle-esque thoughts have popped into your head during class.

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.

We're in college, none of us actually have anything together. In fact, not having anything together is one of our biggest stressors. However, there's a few little things that we do ever so often that actually make us feel like we have our lives together.

1. Making yourself dinner

And no this does not include ramen or Annie's Mac & Cheese. Making a decent meal for yourself is one of the most adult things you can do living on campus. And the food is much better than it would be at the dining hall.
