There is a reason they call it the Golden State, and it's a good one.

There is a reason there are so many songs about the state of California. It is such a special place, for so many reasons. Whether you are in the northern or southern part of the state, there are so many validations why people want to live in this golden state.

Let me begin by saying that driving down the coast to San Diego might be one of the most beautiful drives I have ever done. Last March I had to take a train called the Amtrak, in which I took the route called "Pacific Surfliner" from Los Angelos to San Diego- I think this is when I felt like my love for the coast was validated. While sitting on that crammed train in the midst of Spring, I sat and watched the coast for my train ride down. Its beauty was indescribable, and I never got bored while watching the waves crash on the shore the whole way down to San Diego. It made me appreciate the state I grew up in, and am lucky enough to call home.

This brings me to express my love about San Diego, which holds a ranking of number eight on the charts of the most populated cities in the U.S. This city brings me so much joy, as it holds so much history but is so innovative at the same time. Not to mention, the food is damn right to die for. That guacamole will make your mouth water in seconds. Another fact about San Diego is that their winters consist of 60-degree weather minimum, and the beach is pretty much a thing 90% of the year. Sounds like heaven to me.

Speaking of the major cities, this brings me up the coast to Los Angelos. My favorite town in the US, ranking two in the most populated cities. There are so many reasons to love LA. From the Santa Monica pier to the beautiful beaches of Malibu, to the rolling hills of Hollywood, it's all amazing in its original way. What I love the most about LA is its trendiness. All of the most bizarre, unimaginable trends start in LA and travel up north; you can find almost anything in LA. I for one, am a big foodie, along with my sister. When I go down to visit my sister in Marina Del Ray, we are always hitting up the most trendy places on the streets of Abbott Kinney in Venice. The options are endless, and that is what is so great about that city.

Headed more up North to the Bay Area, we hit my birthplace, where I grew up, and where I hold close to my heart. The amazing city of San Francisco. One of the most densely populated cities in the US, this is one I love endlessly. My love for the Golden Gate Bridge, Haight Street, and all of the other districts in San Francisco is out of this world. Not to mention all of the iconic things we hold in San Fran, like Twin Peaks, Lombard Street, and China Town, there are so many things to take pride of in this city.

Whether you are in Northern or Southern California, there is so much to love about all of it. Every city I mentioned is special in its original way, which is what makes California the most diverse state, and also the best. Although I go to an out-of-state school now (and love it), it really makes me cherish everything that I have back at home that much more. There is a reason they call it the Golden state, and it is a good one.

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
