Throughout my life, I think I've met about a hundred people who say they prefer movies based off of novels, rather than the original book. Okay, maybe not a hundred, but it sure feels like it. I guess I can understand a little as to why they believe that. I mean, let's think about it.
Watching a movie requires a lot less attention than reading, or at least in my opinion, it's less of a hassle. You don't have to hold a book or an e-reader in your hands, you can eat without worrying about smudges or staining pages, and you can lay down in much more comfortable positions. Not to mention that when you watch movies, you don't have to worry about pronunciation or about imagining characters because that's already done for you. Watching movies is fun and I mean, technically, all you have to do is stare at a screen.
On the contrary, reading a book requires a lot more attention. You have to scroll or flip pages, and be super concentrated on what you're reading or else you'll end up reading the same paragraph more than once and still not know what it says. Unlike a movie, when you're reading a book, you have to be the one to decide what characters look like and what the setting looks like. I mean sure, the author will give you details about characteristics and settings but your idea of what it looks like will be different than what the author thought. Unlike a movie, reading takes up a lot more brain power and soon, you'll find yourself tired out and ready for bed.
Now, I know that it seems as watching movies is better than reading a book, but that's not true. Reading books is an amazing way to exercise your brain and dive into new worlds with people you don't know. By reading, you can do the impossible and visit different places you probably haven't visited yet. Books also allow the author to add more details and expand scenes, while movies have to cut a lot of things out to fit into a certain time frame. Yeah, movies are fun, but imagining and creating your own world is something irreplaceable that's offered by reading.
