Why My Best Friend Is My Best Friend

The sister I never expected to gain...but I'm thankful that I did.

Why My Best Friend Is My Best Friend

I believe that in life, there are extra special people that God gives us. These are the people that see something in you and run with it--the kinds of people who are unapologetically themselves and are constantly building you up. I've been blessed to have many of these people in my life, and one of them especially--my best friend.

We had known each other before, but she and I weren't really friends until my eighth-grade year. We bonded over a shared love of music, and soon enough, we were best friends. We've been practically inseparable since that day, and I couldn't be more thankful to call her not only a best friend but a sister that I'll have forever. There are so many reasons that she is one of the best friends a girl could ask for, but I really want to talk about the most important things.

Firstly, my best friend isn't willing to take things too seriously. She's always laughing, and as a result, everyone else laughs with her. When we're together, our stomachs hurt from so much laughter. She brings an incredible amount of joy with her everywhere she goes, and I think that's amazing. There aren't many people who are able to carry that kindness and happiness all the time, but she does, and she does it so gracefully. She encourages me to be a better version of myself daily.

She's always there for me, and when I say always, I mean it. She is constantly willing to listen to me and help me solve problems. She might be a year younger than I am, but she's so wise. I'm thankful for not only her guidance but the opportunities I have to guide her. We provide each other with support through the good and bad times, and that's what matters at the end of the day.

She loves music like I do, and we love singing together. Music is such a unique connecting force that's only brought us closer over the past few years, and I know that because of this, I'll always find a harmony singing next to me in her. Not to mention that she has such a beautiful singing voice--your jaw would drop if you heard it.

Lastly, she reminds me that God is always there through it all. Even when I'm so stressed about the smallest of things, she helps me remember that God is still in control. Her firm foundation in God has strengthened mine, and I get to call her my sister in Christ too, which is one of the best things ever. We are growing every day, and we're doing it together.

I could go on, but it's safe to say that she's truly one of the most real and kindest people I've ever met, and I'm so lucky to call her my best friend. Love you, sista.

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
