Why I Believe In Soul Mates

Certain people are just meant to be in our lives.

Why I Believe In Soul Mates

I have had friends who I thought I would know forever. People who I've talked about moving across the country with or growing old with. But the sad fact of the matter is that I don't even talk to some of those people now. Some of those friendships that I thought would last an eternity ended in disaster. However, I don't believe that short-term friendships or relationships are fruitless. I believe that everyone that comes into our lives is there for a reason, no matter how long we know them. Some friendships are meant to only last a little while. They work to shape us as individuals or help us grow. But unfortunately, there are certain relationships that last for a chapter of our lives and then come to an end.

However, there are also people who will come into our lives and with whom we will share a deep connection. These people are our soul mates. These are the people who you can go years without seeing and still pick up right where you left off. They are the people you can call no matter the time of day and know that they will have your back. Essentially, these are the people who you know will remain in your life forever.

The term "soul mate" is more often than not associated with a lover or a relationship of a romantic nature. But you don't merely share your soul with your spouse or your partner, do you? Author Cecelia Ahern wrote, "A soul mate is someone who understands you like no other, loves you like no other, will be there for you forever, no matter what." This does not describe things that can only be achieved through a romantic relationship, but through many different types of relationships. So while someone might say that they are searching for their soul mate, the truth is they probably already have a met a few.

I believe that I have many soul mates: my sister, my best friends, my mentors. These are all people who I connect with on an insanely deep level. It's these people that I know will be there for all the major events in my life: my wedding, the birth of my first child, even my funeral. And I also know that they will be there during my lowest moments when I need a shoulder to cry on. The majority of the people that I consider my soul mates have come into my life in the most unexpected ways, but each one of them has made an incredible impact.

So, keep your eye out for the soul mates in your life and keep them close. These are the people that will love you til the end of time and who will make you a better you. These people are your squad.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
