I always knew I wanted to be an English major, but sometime last spring I had to decide if I wanted to be a double major with art and have a minor in business, or be a double major in business and have a minor in art. I decided on art, so I sent in my portfolio, and I cried the day the email came telling me that I was accepted into the Gwen Frostic School of Art at Western Michigan University.
My majors are the best. English majors never have 80 question multiple choice quizzes that need to be finished within an hour. We never have to finish math problems and memorize formulas, and if we're good at what we do we don't even have to read our homework. Our only homework involves reading and writing, and since we're English majors we like doing both of those things. We get to read our favorite poems multiple times (I've read The Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock every year so far) and we get to write papers on things that interest us (I compared The Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock to the chapter "The Princes Tale" in HP 7).
My second major is even better. Since I'm only a BA in art, I get to take almost any class that I want to. I get to do what I love, and get credit for it. I can take classes in painting, sculpting, metal making, ceramics, lithography, and more. I could live in the studios if I wanted to, and the only homework we get (after the foundation classes) mostly includes working on projects that we want to.
So please, ask me one more time if I'm going to have a job after college. I will, and I'll be doing it in something I love.
