Why should a person's place of birth determine where they should be in life? Why is it fair that one person should have a better chance at life than another person because he or she was born into a "better" country?
So many people come into the United States illegally in hopes of obtaining a better life. Perhaps the reason so many immigrants in the United States are here illegally is because it is difficult for them to obtain citizenship. The fees associated with naturalization can add up to be well over a thousand dollars. How is a person coming to the United States with nothing supposed to afford these fees? On top of these fees, naturalization is very time consuming, sometimes taking over two years to complete. Often times, People who are trying to escape the conditions in their home country do not have that much time.
People see illegal immigrants as a strain on the economy and even on society, but this is just not the case. Immigrants do the work that most people do not want to do. They work long hours in hot fields for less than minimum wage. They stand on the side of the road in the hot sun selling produce. Immigrants earn the money that they are paid fair and square. If anyone is not being treated fairly, it is the immigrants.
I propose that immigrants should be given an easier chance to become a United States citizen. I do not think that it is fair that we are allowed to live in America and enjoy the freedoms and liberties that we are given while other people are not so fortunate. There are so many people who want to become citizens of our great country but either cannot for various reasons, and there are others who do not even try because they are intimidated by the process.
We should allow all of the good, hard working people who want to become citizens of the greatest country on Earth a fair and equal chance to do so. Instead of building a wall, a symbol of anti-welcome, let's welcome all peoples of the earth a chance to be an American.
