I have finally experienced the feeling of knowing exactly what I want to do when I graduate, and let me tell you it brings so much closure.
I am one of those students that has switched my major over 13 times. I've taken a ton of extra classes towards majors that I will never get, and finally knowing my place in this world is one of the best feelings ever. I have found a job, that doesn't feel like a job. It feels like I am getting paid to do what I love, I'd do it for free if I could.
I know damn well that if I stay in industry as a mechanical engineer, I could make a large amount of money, but my heart is set otherwise.
I want to be a teacher. Know matter how long it takes me to get there.
Teaching has always been a passion of mine. I enjoy teaching people not only a subject, but to love learning itself. I love the "aha" moment when a student makes sense of something. I love that I can make a student enjoy a subject they thought they would hate.
I have had my fair share of good and bad professors, and I have adopted the qualities of the best. I want to engage my students, prove to them that I know what I am teaching and that I love it, and overall find their learning style and teach them that way because the end goal is to get the students to learn, not to get paid.
I currently teach second and third grade. It has been one of the best experiences of my life. The first day I taught, I came home in tears because I knew that I had found my passion. The students loved learning, even the things that I thought were simple and rather tedious to explain- they wanted to hear it.
I enjoyed learning their names, and knowing that for a few hours, they were my kids, my students. I enjoyed the feeling of being called Ms. Foster, and I loved being looked up to.
I knew that teaching wasn't an easy job, and it wasn't until I experienced making a lesson plan, prepping, speaking with parents, and finally teaching itself, that I realize the hours put in were more than worth it.
It was such a gratifying experience, and I now know that teaching is what I want to do for the rest of my life.
