It is getting to be that time of year again. There are countless assignment and test dates approaching, the weather is getting colder, and stress levels are running high.
It is too easy to become overworked and overwhelmed. That being said, take a minute or two for yourself. Make sure you are getting sleep. Eat all of your meals, and make them healthy ones, too. Allow yourself to breathe.
We all try to do so much everyday, when there are simply not enough hours to do so. In a generation of overachievers, where everyone tries to outdo the other, it is important to take a step back and ask yourself, "Why?"
Why am I pushing myself to my limits?
Why am I constantly exhausted?
Why am I still doing this if it does not make me happy?
You are too valuable to put your health and well-being at risk. You should not have to put yourself second, third, or fourth in order to prove yourself and your worth to others. You do not have to be responsible for everything.
Do not fall into the misconception that taking care of yourself is limited to your physical health. This also applies to your emotional and mental health as well. All aspects of one's health are just as important as the other. No part of you deserves neglect.
Life and success coach Gina DeVee offers some helpful advice.
As women, we tell ourselves that all we deserve are the crumbs. We only give to ourselves when everyone else has been given to. That’s when we tell ourselves we deserve to receive. Give to yourself today instead. If you wait, then all that’s left over is the crumbs.
— Gina DeVee
She is right. Read that quote over and over again. Let the phrase "Give to yourself today instead" stay with you, resonate with you, and impact you. Do not give yourself the crumbs. You deserve so much more than that.
Sometimes, it is necessary to be a little selfish. It is not possible to give yourself continually. Pause for just a moment, and assess your current situation. Address your needs and wants. Love yourself. Let yourself come first.
