Why Back To School Season Is Always The Best Season

Going back to college means tailgating, being back with your friends and making memories to last a lifetime

Why Back To School Season Is Always The Best Season

I can't speak for everyone on this, but for most college students going back to school is the most exciting part of the year. Sure when I was in elementary, middle, or even high school, going back to school was a nightmare. The thought of waking up early every day and dragging through SEVEN FREAKING CLASSES that you didn't give a single shit about made my stomach churn. Knowing that I was walking into a building where I would spend seven hours a day learning about stuff I most likely didn't care about was dreadful. While the teachers were talking about algorithms and where to put a comma, I was daydreaming about being out in the sun with friends and going back to being on summer time.

Having said that, college is a dream. I still dream about being on summer time and soaking up some rays, but going back to college is it's own vacation in itself. Going back to school means having a reunion with all of your best friends, living freely, and going out whenever you want to. While it also means dealing with impossible classes that decide your entire future, pulling all nighters to study for a test that you end up getting a C on, and having a ton of responsibility, the perks of college, in my opinion, outweigh its cons by a million. Coming home to moms cooking for a month is nice and all, but I prefer to be eating ramen noodles with my roommates in our cheap bowls laughing about our days or cracking open a bottle of wine. Going back to college means making new, amazing, memories with your greatest friends.

Not to the mention, the best part of going back to school is FOOTBALL. I wish I could say that this is something that all college students look forward to, but unfortunately, many of them aren't blessed enough to go to Florida State. Some colleges don't have big teams, some colleges suck (UF), and some are more into tennis or whatever sport that isn't football. But for Florida state students it means tailgating, the best times of your lives, and ending your day covered in natty light and maybe vomit depending on how your day went. Being broke and stressed out seems worth it when you're shot gunning a beer with random frat guys whom you don't know. Tailgating season is like Christmas but better. Your gift doesn't come in a neatly wrapped package, but it comes in the form of lots of alcohol and being surrounded by people who are just as crazy, if not crazier than you are.

Going back to school for college students means something totally different than it used to. While we dreaded going back to our high schools or middle schools, we can’t wait to get back to our home away from home at college. You’re going back to the stress of school, but you’re also going back to a place that you love and a place that you get to reunite with your friends and your college lifestyle.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
