Why I Back The Blue
NBC News

This past week in the United States there have been many tragedies. There were protests, riots and shootings. The country has become even more divided which is only causing problems.

The internet and social media gives every person the opportunity to voice their opinion on the issues, but that also gives them a way to bash any other opinions in the matter.

The #BlackLivesMatter movement is growing everyday across the country, not only with African American people, but all nationalities.

I am not a racist person. I believe that no matter if your skin is black, white, purple, green, etc. that you and your family should be able to live a life that satisfies you and allows you to live your dreams, but like everyone I have a unique stance on the issues of the country.

I am proudly a police officer's daughter. My dad served in the U.S. Army in Desert Storm in the early 1990s and he has been in the police force for over 20 years at this point. He has worked on the streets, in the academy, in the bomb squad, and as a detective. I have watched him leave at night hoping that I would see him return in the morning. A lot of people do not understand that point of view.

As long as I can remember my dad was honest with me about a lot of people's opinions about the job that he does. He warned me not to tell my friends what he did for his profession or where the firearms were in the house. At the time I thought he was being overly cautious, but now that I am older it is terrifying to see the things that he was worried about becoming reality.

As I said previously, I believe that every race, religion and sexual orientation deserves the same opportunities and the same freedoms that the country has to offer, but after the shooting in Dallas, Texas I think that this whole situation has become more dangerous for the police officers in America.

There will be people who disagree with me on things that I have said in this particular article, but I am in the blue line family. I want my dad and his brothers and sisters in blue to be able to come home to their wives, husbands and children at the end of a shift. With the current situation in the country I am afraid for the lives of every police officer because they have targets on their backs. I understand that not all people involved with the Black Lives Matter movement think this way about police officers and I also understand that not every police officer is the good person that they should be in this line of work, but I see the dangers that this country is facing as the people are starting to fight against each other instead of with each other.

The shootings that took place in the beginning of July should be a wakeup call to the American people that there a problem brewing and if we do not stop it now, I am afraid we have not seen our last massacre.

"It is a lot harder now to be a police officer than what it used to be."
-Steven Seagal

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
