Why Are They So Perfect?

You were made to be a perfect you.

Why Are They So Perfect?
David Marcu

You will never stop comparing yourself to others until you know your identity is rooted in Christ. We were each made perfect in the image of God. That means that He made you exactly how you were meant to be.

Comparisons are deadly, because they make us feel nothing but miserable. We aren't meant to seek what others have, we are meant to seek God and the promises He has for our lives. Yet, comparing ourselves to others is something so many of us struggle with.

Comparisons do one of two things; they either make you feel worse or make you feel better than the person you're comparing yourself too. They will either feed your pride and make you boastful, or make you feel like you are not good enough and make you lose your self-esteem. Either way, they are drawing you away from God and your purpose. You may feel like you aren't as pretty as your friend, or that your relationship should be more like another couple's, or that you are smarter than your co-worker. God made you look exactly the way He wanted you to, your relationship can't be compared to another person's, and your co-worker may have gifts in different areas. It is impossible to fairly judge or compare to people against each other. We have to find contentment in who we are, and the only way we can do that is by discovering His truths.

God made you perfect in His image. You look the way you look because He thinks you are beautiful. God has such a great purpose for your life and only the gifts He gave you will work for it. Nothing anyone else has will make your life better, and you are beautiful just the way you are.

You can celebrate an attribute of another person without feeling negatively about yourself. We need to encourage others by point out their positive features, but that does not mean that we need to think that feature about ourselves is inferior. We are made different for a reason, and we need to celebrate diversity. If we were all created exactly the same way, we wouldn't be able to achieve anything new!

Find who you are and discover the purpose God has for your life. Once you discover that your beauty and identity is rooted in Him, you will let go of comparisons and realize that He is everything you need.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
