Do you ever lie awake at night stressing about everything in your life for hours on end? Then, even on nights where you seem practically care free, you manage to stress about not being stressed? This feeling of constant stress and anxiety is extremely common among millennials.
In fact, according to The American Psychology Association, millennials report more stress than any other generation, and there must be reasons why.
We are told, usually by the time we enter high school, that we will be in debt for the rest of our lives.
Nothing says 'welcome to the real world' better than the threat of impending debt. By the time millennials reach college, they have accepted the fact that this will be their future, and nothing will change that.
The job market for millennials is not as high paying as in previous generations.
With the now increasing price of college tuition, it is going take many many many years to pay off student loan debt. So we wonder then, why are we doing all of this work and paying all of this money for tuition if, in the end, no matter how incredible we do, we end up with a mediocre job. College degrees are losing their worth.
Social media and technology.
Millennials are stuck to phones, laptops, tablets, etc. and though social media is indeed a way to express one's self, it lacks a personal connection to the outside world. It has created a barrier that makes communication skills harder to come across, and technology has become almost a security blanket for millennials. Think about it, how many times have you avoided physical communication by looking down at your phone pretending to do something? This situation comes up because millennials literally get anxiety having a normal conversation with new people. Not to mention the amount of bullying that occurs and causes immense stress online.
There is so much more to learn.
Compared to previous generations, our generation has seen some of the most influential technological, medicinal, etc. advances. Because of such an involved amount of advances, there is an influx in the amount individuals must learn all at once in college.
But millennials, try to keep your heads up. Go out, relax, and don't let the stress get to you.
