Maybe it's just me, but is every guy out there not fazed by the cold? It seems to me that more and more boys and men are not affected by bone-chilling temperatures at all.
We can take this way back to elementary school. Why was it that when it was recess time, it took boys five seconds to get their snow pants, jackets, gloves, hats, and scarves on? Meanwhile, in those same five seconds, I had only managed to get a glove on, and that alone was a struggle. Most likely, it was because they didn't care. Boys were ahead of the game. They knew we weren't going to be outside that long and it didn't matter if every possible piece of clothing had to be tucked into the next. In the meantime, all us girls were struggling to cover every inch of skin in hopes of avoiding frostbite (which we never got). Then, when the entire class was finally suited up and ready to go, as soon as you got outside, the boys were "hot" and would take their jackets off and eventually get yelled at. When they built snowmen, they would make it without gloves on. Even in the earliest years, they were hardly fazed by the presence of bone-chilling temps.
Once we hit our secondary years, boys thought it was cool to wear shorts in the winter. Why? That is the only thing I want to know—why? Where do you get the idea that it is OK to do that? It is -8 degrees outside and you are in SU gym shorts. Not cool. I'm over here struggling to find an extra ounce of body heat, and you are over there chilling in your shorts. I really want to know where this fad comes from. Do you just wake up and decide to throw shorts on? Or do you think it's still hot outside? Do you not see the white stuff on the ground? Kudos to you men, I could never do it. Even when they pull fire alarms during first period (7:40 a.m.) I was cold, much less when it's -8 degrees.
Now that we are in college, men have finally decided that it is not the best idea to wear shorts in freezing weather. Props to you for finally catching on! But now I notice that there is a lack of jacket wearing. Granted, half the time we are walking building to building, but with ice-cold wind chills—how can you do that? I really want to know what your strategy is! I would love to not have to carry a coat around with me all day, but the reality is, it isn't realistic! I get so cold even changing room to room.
I gotta say though, a perk to you always being warm is the fact that you will offer your sweater and jackets up! Well, at least most of you tend to. If we are sitting or standing with 15 layers on and we still have jittering jaws, most of you will offer your jackets up to us. And I believe I speak on behalf of all women out there, thank you! Not only does it keep us warm, and smell good, but it stops our jaws from chattering! But in all honesty, if you have some sort of secret as to surviving the cold the way you do, please share. I don't like wearing 50 layers, but I also don't like being freezing cold. So how can the majority of you walk outside without a coat and say you aren't cold?
