Why an all girls school?
Anyone who knows me knows that I have a very low tolerance for drama. It's for this reason that I only have a few really good friends, plus acquaintances I've met through different occasions.
I've been asked a few times why I would choose to go to an all-girls school. I went to a co-ed high school so surely it would be hard to adjust to a place that taught only girls. I'm not going to lie, the first time I heard that Judson College was an all-girls college, I didn't know what to think. The only thing I knew about all-girls schools was what they are portrayed as on television. I knew girls had a tendency to be dramatic and I didn't know how well I could handle a school full of girls between the ages of 18 and 22.
First, it wasn't very hard at all for me to adjust to an all-girls school. I played softball my freshman year and I became a part of the equine department so I befriended people fairly quickly. I made friends with a few guys from the local military college and settled into my new life. The hardest part was being away from my family and friends from Clarke Prep. Yes, there was drama. But honestly there is always going to be drama in life. Gotta have something to laugh at right?
Second, after the initial why the heck would I go to an all-girls school thought, I went for a visit at Judson and quickly fell in love with the place that became my second home and the people who became my second family. Without this place, I would never have come across different opportunities that have been presented to me in my time here.
Third, is there really a reason you need boys at college? The answer is no, no you don't. Yes, college is about having fun but it's first and foremost about your education. Your parents aren't paying for you to find a husband. If you do, more power to you, I know several people who met their future spouse in college, but that's not what it's about. The biggest thing I've learned in life is to be independent. When I'm done here I can take satisfaction from knowing that I don't have to depend on someone to take care of me (OK, so maybe I'll need to depend on my parents while I find a job. Thanks mom and dad, you rock).
To begin with, I was terrified of choosing a college made up of only females. As time has come and gone I found far more reasons to love this beautiful, old school for women.
