When you throw on your comfy sweater, pull out the riding boots, and start seeing your breath while walking to class, that is when you know its fall, the best season of the entire year. Hot coffee, leaves changing, and everything pumpkin fills up your life and your social media feeds, putting you in the spirit for some chilly nights filled with fun and laughter before the bitter cold of winter sets in. You and your friends begin to think of Halloween costumes, and the excitement over fall breaks and the looming period before Thanksgiving starts to set itself in your mind. But, why is fall the best season?
First, you don’t have to worry about getting frostbite or actually freezing to death, but you don’t have to worry about sweating your way to classes. The fall is a time where it can be chilly, but it is neither cold or hot whatsoever. The term “crisp” is all the rage in fall, where the cool weather that is not overbearing is a prime component of this wonderful time of year. The colors of the season, the clear skies, and the sounds of leaves rustling in the wind will make anyone appreciate this time of year.
Second, the foods and drinks (especially drinks) associated with fall is one of the most pleasurable experiences you will have. Starbucks comes up with some of the most delicious concoctions known to this world, and it is the fall where they step up their game and incorporate pumpkin into at least some of their seasonal goodies (hello Pumpkin Hot Chocolate from Starbucks’ Secret Menu).
Third, you get to wear clothing that is comfortable, but is not so bulky that you have to worry about taking multiple layers off every time you get inside. Think chunky scarves, cute hats, maybe a light jacket, but no huge winter coats and gloves to worry about (yet). You get to still be warm and toasty from your clothing, but don’t have to sacrifice your sense of style in the meantime.
And last, fall is a time to cherish what you have in your life. You have holidays like Thanksgiving to appreciate what you have been given and your family, events like a Fall Fest or other gatherings to have fun with your friends, and it is a time to be content with your life, even if you already feel stressed out after the first few weeks of classes. Try to take a step back and appreciate everything that you have been given in your life during this fall season, and see how the peace and serenity associated with this time of year will prepare you for the hustle and bustle of winter holiday season and the later exams to come.
