Why I Am Glad My Friends And I Chose Different Colleges

Let me first start off by saying how much I truly love my friends. They are honestly so amazing, and I am very blessed to have them. They have gotten me through the roughest parts of my life, and never cease to make me laugh. I don’t know what I would do without them in my life. Even after reflecting on how much they mean to me, I am glad we all chose different universities. I know what you must be thinking: “Samantha, you just want to get rid of your friends.” My reasoning is far from that though.

My friends and I are all different people. We all have very similar interests and values, but we have many differences. We have different goals and dreams. We want different things out of life and our college experiences. Not every school is right for everyone, and my friends’ colleges are not right for me. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this; I found a school that I love that is right for me. My friends have found schools that they love that are right for them. My friends’ happiness means more to me than being together at the same university. I would rather us all be happy at different places then miserable together. At the end of the day, we still have all of our amazing memories together.

No matter where life takes us, we will still have our memories. I have had so many great times with them that are unforgettable, and I plan on continuing to spend time with them during college. Just because I won’t be with them every day doesn’t mean we still can’t be friends and hangout. There is always winter break, weekends and summer break. Being away will make us cherish our time together even more. It will also make us all thankful for Face Time and social media. If a friendship is strong enough, it will last through anything life has to offer.

My friends and I basically grew up together, so we have gone through many of the same experiences and have been impacted by each experience in a very similar way. When we go to separate colleges, we will each grow in different ways. It is my hope that we can take our experiences and impact each other even more when we are all together again. Being apart will give us a chance to learn, grow and share our new experiences.

Overall, I am glad my friends and I are going to different schools this fall. Their happiness means everything to me, and I know they will make the decisions that are best for them. I believe that this new chapter of our lives will make us all cherish all of our memories and show us how strong our bond is.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
