Why I Am A Cat Person

I love my Fluey Flu. Oh yes I do.

Why I Am A Cat Person

I have had this conversation with people countless times. There is the ongoing argument whether dogs are better than cats, or cats are better than dogs, yada yada. I am going to start out by saying, there is no right answer. People have their opinions, and maybe dogs are better to them , and cats are better to others. There, end of argument. You're right, I'm right, we're both right, let's move on. But, for all the dog people in the world that don't understand the likability of cats, I am going to explain it right now. *Note, I have never had a dog, I grew up with cats, so you can't hold any of my preferences against me. Here goes:

Cats clean themselves

No need to buy Kitty Shampoo, cats groom themselves daily and keep themselves soft and clean. The most you'll have to do is brush them once in a while. Washing dogs is a big ordeal, involving a lot of water and a big mess. It's nice to avoid that whole situation with cats.

Litter Boxes

You don't have to wake up at the crack of dawn and take them for a walk, or let them outside to do their business. They take care of themselves, and "go" whenever they please. That makes them extremely low maintenance.

They Don't Bark

Enough said.

They Don't Assault Guests

Well-trained dogs are amazing, but I have entered countless houses where the dogs have not been trained, and I have been jumped on, barked at, bitten, slobbered on... I hate it. It's annoying, and it hurts my body, my ears, my brain. Cats never do that!

Cats Build Real Relationships

Dogs will love anyone, even strangers! It's kind of a sweet concept, but it also means that it's easy to have a good time with a dog. Cats take longer to warm up to people, but that makes sense. Why would they just immediately trust someone who they don't know? That's not how people work. It makes the relationship feel more earned, deserved, and real when the cats finally decide to warm up to their owners. It means that you've passed some test and built trust between owner and pet, and it makes the bond feel stronger than if the pet had just loved you simply because you would rub their bellies.

Adorably Inconvenient

My cat wants to be with me all the time, especially when it's least convenient. I'm surfing the web, and he's trying to sleep on my laptop. I'm doing homework, he's playing with the pen I'm writing with. I'm trying to sleep, he's pawing at my arm. But everything he does is because he wants attention and love, and I adore it. He's needy, but I wouldn't have him any other way.

Cats and dogs each have special perks to them, and both are amazing creatures. You'll find angel cats and demon dogs, and demon cats and angel dogs. But we need to recognize the greatness that is domesticated pets, and love all of them...(especially cats).

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
