If you get easily offended, then this article probably isn’t one you’ll be interested in.
Let me also start by stating that I am bi-racial (black and white) and I grew up in a predominantly white town, so in no way am I an expert when it comes to things like this. I just want to explain why most of the black community is angered by the term ‘all lives matter’ in contrast to the whole ‘black lives matter’ movement that has occurred. No, it’s not that we are saying our lives are more valuable than yours, but we are saying that we are your EQUAL and we want to be treated that way. If you say that we are treated as equals, then you’re lying to yourself. Are you afraid to walk down the streets in fears of possibly being shot? Are you afraid of being pulled over in fears that you’ll be the next trending hashtag or trending topic? Are you afraid that you might get the call saying that your son was the next victim? Young members of the black community shouldn’t live in so much fear of the ones who are supposed to be protecting them. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for using the necessary actions to protect the well beings of civilians, but the force that’s being used isn’t necessary.
It’s 2016, and racism is still well and alive. There’s no justice for young men and women who are being slain. No, I’m not against the police (in anyway), but when we’re watching videos of these men and women being killed in cold blood, and their killers are being placed on paid leave and being found not guilty then there’s a problem there. When you use the term ‘all lives matter’ that is demeaning the term ‘black lives matter.’ We’re supposed to be the generation of changes, but here we are still thinking it’s okay to discriminate against someone because of the color of their skin and it’s not. We’re supposed to be spreading love, but instead we’re spreading hate. No one deserves to have their life ended, just because someone felt shooting them. We HAVE to be the change, because our future generation is depending on us. Spread love always.
