Why It Actually Doesn't Matter Who Wins

We all have our own opinion, but whose opinion really matters?

Well, it's finally here. The day that the last four years have been leading up to. We are going to choose the person that will lead our country for the next 4-8 years.

Needless to say, a lot of people get extremely, uhh let's say "excited," about their candidate. I heard a story on the news this morning called "A House Divided." The reporter was talking to an older woman as they looked through a photo album. The woman had two sons — one son was pro-Trump and the other, you guessed it, was pro-Clinton. They both were famous in the political world, often arguing with each other on television. Of course, this broke their mother's heart. For a period of time, the two brothers weren't even speaking. They have now reconciled, but they still are on opposing sides, much to their mother's dismay.

Is it really worth it? Is this election worth losing friends and family? Is it worth hurting those we love over differing opinions? I don't think it really is, and I don't think God does either. There are countless verses that talk about God doing what he pleases and having a plan for the world. Don't believe me? Please, let me show you:

"From eternity to eternity I am God. No one can snatch anyone out of my hand. No one can undo what I have done."

Isaiah 43:13 NLT

"The Lord does whatever pleases him throughout all heaven and earth, and on the seas and in their depths."

Psalm 135:6 NLT

"Our God is in the heavens, and he does as he wishes."

Psalm 115:3 NLT

"I know that you can do anything, and no one can stop you."

Job 42:2 NLT

God has a purpose for everything he does. And you know what, we aren't going to understand it. God says in Isaiah 55:8-9, "My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts... And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts." As Christians, we should pray that we can be okay with GOD'S decision, whether we like it or not. Then, we have to obey the leader as long as we aren't going against what God tells us in His Word. Jesus tells us this in Romans 13:1 :

"Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed by God."

So, no matter what happens in 2016, keep in mind that God has had it planned for all eternity. So, yes, who you vote for is important. Just don't get so wrapped up in the presidential election that you forget who the true King is....

"My hope is in You, Lord
All the day long, I won't be shaken by drought or storm
A peace that passes understanding is my song
And I sing my hope is in You, Lord"

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
