Sleeping is a big deal; it is a crucial part of survival and without it, we can't function. In college, however, we tend to push sleep aside and give priorities to other things such as homework and Netflix. Sleeping in can help, but when you have class at 8 a.m, it is impossible. My advice to anyone would be to avoid them at all costs, but that's not always an option. Instead, we need to suck it up and deal with them. While I could try to tell you how to survive a semester filled with early morning classes or the pros and cons of 8 a.ms, I'll just rant about why they are the worst thing ever.
First of all, waking up is probably one of the hardest things ever. When you're up until 2 a.m writing an essay, waking up at 7 a.m. is challenging to say the least. The dreaded moment when the alarm goes off is traumatic, and even more traumatic is when you sleep through the alarm and have only five minutes to get ready for class. Stress is never good, especially not that early in the morning.
Another issue with having class this early is that it is very hard to get anything out of it. I don't know about you, but I need a good hour to be fully awake and ready to learn. If I'm waking up at 7.30 and rushing to class, I will be too tired to focus or listen, and the chances of falling asleep during lecture are extremely high. Class will be a lot less productive than it would be if it was only an hour later.
As the semester goes on and the lack of sleep piles up, it is easy to give into the exhaustion and decide to sleep in instead of going to class. This means there is more of a tendency of skipping when class is so early. If class were later, there wouldn't be a reason to skip and there'd be more of an inclination to attend.
Bottom line is, if you are not a morning person, 8 a.ms are awful. Is it doable? Yes, but that doesn't mean it should be done. At the end of the day, it is only a matter of getting out of bed. Some people may get used to it, for others, like myself, it never gets easier.
