For most of my freshman year, I thought, Why can't I be a freshman forever? You show up to a new place, barely knowing anyone; and you get to make a fresh start. College isn't like high school where people had known who you were since you were in diapers. If you decide to join a sorority or fraternity, you spend a semester getting to know more people than just who you live in the same dorm as or have the same classes as. Your college world opens up- and then you enter sophomore year.
As a freshman, you were learning, putting every situation together piece by piece. You woke up every day at the same time , with the same routine. As a sophomore, you know most, but you're still learning and that's okay. You know that leaving for class with 15 minutes to spare won't make you late, if anything, the teacher always shows up late. You don't even think about wearing a tank top when you go out in 10 degree weather because you know every cab number by heart- walking isn't an option.
As a sophomore you also know:
1. What times to avoid the extensive lines at any food place.
2. What days and times the ellipticals at the gym won't be full.
3. Chipotle is a great meal choice at least once a week.
4. The library is a thing.
5. The library is meant for Monday and Wednesday nights.
6. Sunday is not the day of rest, it's the "I need to get to the library before 12 p.m. so I can a table" day.
7. The best days to go out: Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
8. If you can make it past 6 p.m. on a Saturday, you can make it until 2 a.m.
9. Where to go on which days (i.e. Pachinko's on a Friday and Brick or New on a Tuesday).
10. Going out during the weekend before midterms or finals is actually not the move.
The list could go on and on. Freshman year may be about finding yourself, but sophomore year is all about knowing who you are and embracing it.
