Warning: Spoilers Ahead
You have probably been living under a rock if you haven't heard about the Netflix original series "13 Reasons Why." Just a few days after the release of the show, it became one of the most popular Netflix series ever produced. This show defines what can cause a person to mentally break and to feel the need to commit suicide; and, yes, it is being renewed for a second season. If you have watched "13 Reasons Why", you are probably jumping for joy because you were left with many questions as Tony and Clay drive off into the sunset in the final episode of season 1. Seriously, there are a lot of things we don't know: Did Alex shoot himself, or did Tyler do it? What happened to Bryce? Did he go to jail? What about Justin, what does he do with the gun he had? Jessica? Mr. Porter? The Bakers?
Well, I am here to tell you that a second season of "13 Reasons Why" is completely unnecessary. Yes, I would also like to know the answer to all of the questions listed above, but I don't think I need the answers to survive. The show is centered around the character Hannah Baker who killed herself and was telling others the 13 reasons why she did it. The 13th episode shows what the last reason was and we see her actually killing herself. The whole point of the show is to explain what goes through an adolescents' mind when he or she has a breakdown and feels the need to commit suicide. We hear Hannah's last reason, and we hear all of her story. This show was her story.
The end of season 1 left so many questions for us to guess an answer to. Personally, I wish it would stay that way. The show is centered around suicide and the conclusion of the season is open-ended. It almost mimics the act of suicide itself. When someone commits suicide, they never get the answer to all the questions that they have. When we die, we'll never know if the Green Bay Packers win the 2101 Super Bowl (if that's still a thing by then). We'll never know all the things we want, which is how the season ends.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the show and I am interested to see how they do the second season. But when I finished the show, I wasn't dying for answers. Hannah told her story. What more can be told?
