To Whoever Lives In My Freshman Year Dorm

Dear Whoever Lives In My Freshman Year Dorm,

I would first off like to say congratulations, you are living in one of the best dorms on campus. Do you want to know why? Because my roommate and I lived here. Kidding, well kind of kidding, but not really. This room that you are living in, is one with a great view and in a great location. It’s also a room full of countless memories.

I know from the outside, it just looks like a door. But if you look close enough, you can probably find a lot of glitter, and maybe some pieces of tape from an intense door decorating contest we had in December. From the inside, it looks like a basic dorm room. With your basic dorm necessaries, a bed, a dresser, a desk. You also have a great view, enjoy that view. Take that view in, because I swear the way housing works after your freshman year, just enjoy the view.

This room isn’t just another dorm just like all the other ones. This is a dorm room full of great memories. I can honestly from the day I moved in, to the day I’m writing this that this dorm has fulfilled some of the best memories. It’s the first time I ever left home, but by the end of the first probably two days of living in this room, it was already like a second home. One of those main reasons were because of my roommate. Since you are living in this room, you have to absolutely love your roommate as much as I love mine.

My roommate is one of the reasons that this room had the memories it did. You have to take the time to realize, yes the room is small. They are there to wipe your tears away when you are upset, and give you a good laugh when you need one. If you are close with your roommate they will be able to read you, and know when you are okay and not okay. You will also find a time, that having two peep holes is a good time because you can both see what is happening.

In this room, I hope you get to meet great people like I did. The type of people who will always be there for you, no matter what. I was lucky enough to become best friends with one person on my floor, and friends with other people on my floor. Take advance of meeting people on your floor, especially in the beginning of the year. You won’t regret the people you meet. In my case, I met some great people.

In this room, I hope you find a reason to always be laughing, and talking about anything and everything. From talking about boys that you think are cute, or the guys in your class, or even the guy you’ve liked for a while but he is too clueless to notice it. Tell stories about your day, and just have deep conversations about everything.

In this room, make sure you have dance parties and sing very loud, to throwback songs because those are always the best to dance around too. You will be stressed about school, but sometimes it’s good to have some fun. I realized that within the memories I made in this room.

In this room, make sure you make the best memories because it goes fast. One day, it’s the second month of school and then before you even realize it, it’s April and you went through the painful housing process, and you are going to be frustrated but hopefully you all make the same amounts of memories I made in this room. These are the memories that you’ll remember forever.

I remember when I moved in, I was told by the girl who helped me move in "This room belonged to two girls who made this room great, I hope you two can continue that". So now I'm passing that on to whoever lives here next year.

Good luck, and I hope you can somewhat live up to the memories that this room created for me.

Sincerely

The girl who had the best time in this room.

PS. We probably will come visit and stand outside the door next year, don’t be worried we are just remembering the good memories.
