I don't know who they are and I don't know what kind of a celebrity they are. However, one thing I do know is that they are confident and extremely worth paying attention to.
Chances are, if you have heard anything about the VMA's, you have heard about Nicki Minaj calling out Miley Cyrus (kudos to Minaj, though, for standing up for herself), saw memes of Justin Bieber crying onstage, or saw picture after picture of Cyrus' numerous outfits. I was debating whether to even write about the VMA's this week until I went through a list on Buzzfeed with all of the red carpet looks and saw this outfit. As soon as I saw it, I felt a strong wave come over me.

Let's start off with originality. How original is this?!
Well, maybe not completely original. There may have been other celebrities that have done something similar, but this is the first time it has struck me so strongly. And why? Because these are all the kinds of words a girl can potentially be called nowadays.
Every year, the dictionaries include more words and every year, there seems to be a new slang word invented, especially slang words to call us women. And, unfortunately, year after year, they get more and more hurtful.
While they do get more and more hurtful, you cannot deny that it takes a lot of guts to stand in front of others wearing the mean words that others call you. To be strong enough to stand in front of media with those words on you and still smile while holding your head up takes some serious courage. It is perhaps this kind of spirit that we should be focusing on the aftermath of the VMA's.
The VMA's had a lot happen this year that has been under media scrutiny. Unfortunately, the problems that are under scrutiny are so minute in the world that it almost makes me wish I could just criticize them for not focusing on the real issues that have been presented in front of them. Whatever happened to respect for women? Whatever happened to every women being able to be herself without getting called out? According to many articles online, the two proud women wanted to use their outfits to make a statement, taking back the words that the media has used against them.
Is it just me, or is that extremely empowering?
When someone takes back the words that they have been called, don't they also take back a piece of themselves that have been lost? Putting those words on their body brings back not only who they were in the past, but also combines it with who they are in the present.
So perhaps that is what we should all do: Hold our heads up high, keep the names we have been called on our sleeve (figuratively) and remember that they only used to be us, but are no longer who we truly are.
Thank you, Amber Rose and Blac Chyna.
