DISCLAIMER: This article is about makeup products, not the people behind them. I understand there is drama behind both individuals but this article is purely looking at the makeup products, not the individuals behind them.
So far 2016 has been the year of makeup products, more specifically liquid lipsticks. Almost any brand you look at has it's own liquid lipstick. More notably, some celebrities have released their own brands as well. I decided to see what all the fuss was about so I looked into two of the more famous liquid lipstick brands: Kylie Jenner Lipkits and Jeffree Star Liquid Lips.
So today we are going to compare Jeffree Star Liquid Lipsticks to Kylie Jenner's Liquid Lipsticks. Friendly reminder this is purely my opinion on what I think of the products, not the people behind them.
First up is Jeffree Star, whose liquid lips I have six of. They come 0.19 FL.OZ of product and are applied with a doe foot applicator. The scent of the liquid lips is candy like and Star has often stated they smell like root beer.
From left to right here are swatches of the shades Unicorn Blood, Scorpio, Androgyny, Posh Spice, Celebrity Skin and I'm Nude.
These liquid lips cost $18 each and there are no lip liners available at this time. You can tell right off the bat that some of his darker shades are a little streaky, especially Unicorn Blood but I've found with multiple coats it works just fine. The liquid lips dry almost immediately and the smell is there but not overpowering. While wearing these for a day I have found that they are very comfortable to wear and last all day. Star advises people to avoid greasy food because of the oils in the liquid lips. These are also vegan and cruelty free.
Next up is Kylie Jenner whose lip kits sell for $29 with a liquid lip and a liner and $17 for a single liquid lip. Each liquid lip contains 0.11FL.OZ of product.
Next is Kylie Jenner's Lip Kits from left to right Reign, Leo, Love Bite and Dirty Peach.
Kylie's shades are very pigmented and I've found that one swipe applies all the product without any streaking. Her products are scented and smell very sweet and vanilla like. The scent is a bit overpowering but seems to fade when the liquid lips dry. Hers dries almost immediately but I've found that these liquid lips are very drying of the lips and during multiple times throughout the day I've felt myself noticing how dry my lips were. The dryness made it very uncomfortable for me to wear. These lip kits are cruelty free.
Because these liquid lips are so popular I decided to compare two similar shades that both brands share. Pictured above from top to bottom is Kylie Jenner's 'Love Bite' and Jeffree Star's 'Scorpio.' While these two look incredibly similar in the bottles they are actually two completely different shades when switched. Love Bite is more of a dark mauve while Scorpio is more of a grey purple.
From top to bottom is Kylie Jenner's 'Leo' and Jeffree Star's 'Unicorn Blood.' The similarities here is astonishing though Jenner's does seem to be a little darker, more of a blood red while Unicorn Blood is more orange tinted. Still, in real life these shades look basically identical.
Also, a downside for both Jeffree Star and Kylie Jenner Lips, they are seriously hard to get off. I understand they are supposed to last all day but when I'm scrubbing my face off with makeup remover and my lips stay perfectly in place, we have a problem. I had to scrub till it HURT in order to remove these liquid lips.
All in all, I'm a fan of both Kylie and Jeffree Star's Liquid Lipsticks. I think both of them have created businesses that are simply amazing and have amazing products. In the long run I would have to put Jeffree Star above Kylie Jenner's Liquid Lips. His simply worked better for me and were never drying or uncomfortable to wear. But don't worry, I'll definitely be purchasing more products from both these companies in the future!
