Who Wants What?

An Outline of Each Party's Plan

Who Wants What?

With the general election just a few days away, I am continuing to see my Facebook friends who are undecided and / or considering not voting. That blows my mind. If you have followed the election even a little bit, you understand what we have to choose from. Even though I have a very strong opinion on who you should vote for, I'll stay unbiased. For those who are undecided, I will clearly lay out both of the candidates' plans. Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump each have unique campaigns, and they are vastly different from one another in their political strategy. Here's what they want to do during their term as POTUS.

Up first, we have Hillary Clinton as the Democratic Party Candidate. Clinton has worked her whole life in politics and law. She attended Wellesley College for her undergraduate degree where she majored in political science. She then earned her J.D. from Yale Law School and went on to become the first woman partner at Rose Law Firm. She later served as the 67th United States Secretary of State from 2009 to 2013, the junior United States Senator representing New York from 2001 to 2009, First Lady of the United States during the presidency of her husband, Bill Clinton, from 1993 to 2001, and First Lady of Arkansas during his governorship from 1979 to 1981 and again from 1983 to 1992.

So, what's her plan?

1. A fair tax system.

2. Disability rights.

3. LGBTQ+ rights and equality.

4. Radical justice.

5. Addiction and substance use aid.

6. Affordable and accessible early childhood education.

7. Making college debt-free and taking on existing student debt.

8. Supporting rural communities and small businesses.

9. Creating an economy that works for everyone.

10. Fixing America's infrastructure.

11. Manufacturing - "Make it in America".

12. Research funding for Alzheimer's Disease, Autism, HIV, and AIDS.

13. Military and Defense funding.

14. Universal, affordable, and accessible healthcare.

15. Mental health funding.

16. Taking care of veterans, the armed forces, and their families.

17. Easier voting rights and accessibility.

18. Immigration reform.

19. Wall Street reform.

20. Addressing climate change and environmental rights as well as protecting all animals and wildlife.

21. Jobs, fair wages, and paid family and maternity leave.

22. Women's rights, opportunity, and healthcare.

23. Laborer's and workers rights.

24. Better K-12 education for everyone.

25. Criminal justice reform.

Up next, we have Donald J. Trump, the Republican Party Nominee. Trump attended Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and received his bachelors degree in economics. In 1971 he was given control of his father Fred Trump's real estate and construction firm and later renamed it The Trump Organization, rising to public prominence shortly thereafter. Trump has appeared at the Miss USA pageants, which he owned from 1996 to 2015, and has made cameo appearances in films and television series. He sought the Reform Party presidential nomination in 2000, but withdrew before voting began. He hosted and co-produced The Apprentice, a reality television series on NBC from 2004 to 2015. As of 2016, he was listed by Forbes as the 324th wealthiest person in the world, and 156th in the United States.

After about an hour of searching through his campaign website, I could not find a defined written plan for his presidential win. I went through each debate and pulled quotes from him and complied them below.

Below is Donald Trump’s formula — 19 points in all — to make America great again, as culled from his Tuesday remarks.

1. Sell junk to Saudi Arabia, since the goods we send them are blown up anyway.

2. Repeal Obamacare “and replace it with something that benefits everybody”.

3. “Turn off that spigot” of sending money to China (in the form of debt payments) by taxing them “until they behave properly”.

4. Renegotiate our foreign trade deals.

5. Call up the head of the Ford Motor Company and tell them they are going to be taxed at 35 percent for every car coming from Mexico until they decide to nix their plant in Mexico City.

6. End President Barack Obama’s executive actions on immigration.

7. End border crossings from Mexico because some of those border-crossers are “rapists”.

8. To do that, build a “great, great wall” on the U.S.-Mexico border.

9. Have Mexico pay for a giant wall to keep them out of the US.

10. Don’t appoint a secretary of state who rides a bike and breaks his leg -Avoid riding bikes himself.

11. Work hard on the Islamic State problem.

12. Stop Iran from getting nuclear weapons.

13. Find the General Patton or General MacArthur from within the U.S. armed forces to “make it really work” in the Middle East.

14. Rebuild the country’s infrastructure — “nobody can do that like me”.

15. Create jobs — “I will be the greatest jobs president that God ever created”.

16. Save Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security “without cuts”.

17. Protect the Second Amendment.

18. Take the brand of the United States “and make it great again.”

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
