Jake Lamb
Jake Lamb coming off his lone 2017 All-Star appearance has only played 134 combined games since. Shoulder injuries have hampered this former potential cornerstone piece who swatted 61 bombs between 2016 and 2017.
Entering the final year of his contract, Lamb needs to have a resurgence if he wants to see big money in free agency. With Eduardo Escobar and Christian Walker manning first and third base, Lamb can slide in nicely into the DH spot.
Lamb is a southpaw who mashes right-handed pitchers which compliments nicely, the switch-hitting capabilities of Escobar and right-handed hitting of Walker. If Lamb can stay healthy and showcase the pop like before, this D'backs lineup can be frightening.
Just imagine...Lamb, Walker, and Escobar smashing 30 bombs each in the middle of the order.
Kevin Cron
The minor league home run king has a claim to be the D'backs DH in 2020. Standing at 6'5" and weighing nearly as much as Lebron, Kevin Cron obliterated minor league pitching in 2019. He swatted a ridiculous 39 home runs with a .329 batting average in only 84 games. His walk rate also hit a new career-high at 16.2 percent.
Cron was able to get his feet wet in 2019 with the D'backs. He only smacked 6 home runs over 78 plate appearances, but it was tough to get playing time with a logjam in front of him. Lamb was still making a case to return to the lineup, while Walker was in the midst of a breakout season.
If Lamb continues to struggle with his health or if Walker's breakout season turns out to be a one-hit-wonder, then Cron might have a path to playing in 2020. If Cron can flash the pop we know he has, then maybe he will be this year's breakout player.
Seth Beer
A forgotten about piece in the Zack Greinke deal has quietly been raking in the minors. His slashline of .289/.388/.516 with 26 dingers should have turned some heads, but instead MLB.com has him ranked as the 13th best prospect in the franchise's system.
This fomer first-round pick has been an above-average hitter dating back to college when he was hitting over .300. As the secondary piece in the Greinke deal, Beer wants to have the same meteoric rise as Ketel Marte - who was considered the secondary piece in the Tajiuan Walker trade.
The ceiling and investment is a lot higher for Beer than it is for Cron or Lamb. Beer is still only 23 and hasn't spent years in the minors like Beer or had the health issues like Lamb.
Scouts saw the talent and production that made Beer a first round pick. If he can put it all together, then maybe we will talk about Beer, like how we talk about Ketel Marte.
