Who Is Tomi Lahren?

A brief look into the woman taking social media by storm.

So who exactly is Tomi Lahren?

I've been seeing this girl everywhere, but she didn't really cross my mind as someone very important until I saw that she'd appeared on The Daily Show. Which, for those of you who don't know, is a wonderful news satire and talk show program. Lahren made her appearance on November 30, and let me tell you, I'm hardly impressed by this girl.

But aside from my own opinions, I wanted to know who this person was.

Tomi Lahren is a conservative 24-year-old TV and online video host who currently hosts Tomi for TheBlaze. She garnered much attention for her outspoken criticism of Colin Kaepernick's protest of the national anthem as well as for another segment where she compared the Black Lives Movement to the KKK. Lahren also released a video in November criticizing the flocks of discontent Americans who took to the streets in protest of Trump's victory, calling them "crybabies" having a tantrum. One thing of note is that in all of her videos, she appears remarkably angry about... well, everything.

Naturally, a lot of people aren't too happy with her. (What an understatement; thousands of people demanded that she be fired from her job after her rant about how the Black Lives Movement is the new KKK). She's been ridiculed and criticized harshly, and one of her most popular epithets are "white power Barbie." However, Lahren has also stated that she is well aware of how controversial her videos are, but said confidently that she doesn't care if her viewers hate her. In fact, she welcomed them to watch and criticize her shows, evidently subscribing to the belief that any publicity is good publicity.

And she's not wrong. She's a media sensation right now, and it's interesting to see how Lahren and Trump are similar in many ways. One of the factors behind their respective popularity with other conservatives is how they are so frank and outspoken about their beliefs, appearing not to care that they are labeled as racist, homophobic, etc. In an era where people shrink away from such labels, which are usually not seen as socially acceptable, Lahren and Trump must be a huge source of relief for all the closet racists.

I won't delve into my personal opinions right now, as this article is long enough, but the bottom line is this: I greatly dislike both Trump and Lahren. But even if I dislike Lahren, a woman only three years older than me with a background of journalism (a major I'm studying), I have to give her this: she's got nerve. I don't like what comes out of her mouth, but I must grudgingly acknowledge that Lahren's embrace of controversy and harsh public scrutiny is rather impressive.

That doesn't mean I'll ever watch her videos willingly, though.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
