I was given an assignment about a month ago for creative writing that completely stumped me. It's not that I didn't want to write, it was that I didn't know how to. The assignment was "Who Was the Great I Am" to me. I could tell you who the Great I Am is in general, and I'm pretty sure I would get a grade on it because anyone can say who the great I Am is, but that wasn't the assignment. The assignment was to write who is the Great "I Am" to you personally.
Unfortunately I didn't do the assignment, but God is good and I thought maybe it's time to write what the Great "I Am" is to me.
The Great I am is my protector:
It's amazing to see how much he loves me. He is my shield. How many people can say that the God of this world, our creator, is my shield? To help you imagine him as a protector, think of him as a big Roman soldier with a shield in one hand and a sword in another; the big soldier is God.
God was the one - when my whole world was falling apart, he was there holding me. I often thought of him holding me with his arms wrapped around me like a Father would hold his child, but of course I didn't always see him as protecting. It took me awhile to understand that sometimes the reason why I wouldn't be able to visit my family that was unsaved was because he was protecting from surroundings he didn't want me in.
My strength
He has been my strength in my times of weakness.
As a human being who goes through trials, it's hard to just let God be our strength because we think we can overcome it on our own. In reality, those trials are meant to have victory that can only be given by our one true God.
My friend
He is the one you can turn to at 12:00 a.m. when everyone is asleep. I promise he is there listening to every word you say. He knows your fears, your faults and your secrets.
There is more, but this pretty much sums up what the Great I Am is to me.
Who is the Great I Am to you? Please let it sink in a little.
Did I stump you with the question?
Maybe you don't know what he is to you personally because you've never thought of letting him come into your heart to save you. What then? Do you go to other social media, ignoring the good news that I'm about to share with You?
Romans 10:9 says:
"That if thou shalt confess with Thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead thou shalt be saved."
God wants to be YOUR personal Great I Am, but because of our sin we are unable to have that personal relationship with the Lord, so we are going to hell ( Romans 6:23).
God is Holy, meaning that he is perfect and has no sin in him. (Don't turn off your phone because I promise you there is hope. If there wasn't, I wouldn't be writing this). God sent his son to die on the cross for our sins so that we can be with him in heaven.
There are three easy steps to accepting Christ as your Savior:
A. Admit that you are a sinner and need God's forgiveness.
B. Believe that God sent his son to die on the cross for you and that he rose again the third day.
C. Ask God to come into your heart and save you from your sin.
Then and only then can you understand personally who the Great I Am is to you.
