Bloom is from Manhattan Beach, California and was raised in a Jewish household. She attended New York University, Tish School for the Arts for theater. During her time in college she became head writer and director of NYU sketch comedy group called Hammerkatz. After she graduated with a BFA in drama, she continued to study improve and sketch comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in New York.
In 2010, she release her first music video on the Internet called, F*** Me, Ray Bradbury. The video went viral and was nominated for a Hugo Award for “Best Dramatic Presentation: Short Form.” In 2013, Bloom released her first musical comedy album called Please Love Me. She writes and performs her own work. Some of her videos consist of songs titled, F*** Me, Ray Bradbury, I Steal Pets, Chanukah Honey, I Was A Mermaid And Now I’m a Popstar, You Can Touch My Boobies, No One Will Watch The F*** Tony Awards With Me, and OCDance! Bloom is now living in Los Angeles and happily married Dan Gregor, a fellow comedian.
Most recently she won the 2016 Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Television Series Musical or Comedy. She was nominated and won for her new comedy series Crazy Ex-Girlfriend that airs on Monday nights at 8/7c on the CW. (Check it out!) The show revolves around a girl named Rebecca Bunch, a successful New York City lawyer who didn’t seem to be happy with her life. When she ran into her ex-boyfriend, Josh Chan from summer camp he told her he was moving back to his hometown of West Covina, California (“just two hours from the beach, four in traffic”). She decided to quit her job and life in New York and move to California in hopes of finding happiness, a fresh start, and Josh's heart. The show is filled with wacky songs, a hilarious group of actors, and a relatable storyline.
All of her videos and songs are hilarious, relevant, and extremely entertaining. She is an inspiration for all those aspiring Jewish female artist. She isn't the typical perfect cookie cutter entertainer. She is real! I can personally relate and feel represented by all that she does and is! Try watching one of her videos or CW series and I promise you she’ll have you cracking up by the end.
