Who Is Our Identity Based On?

The Mirror That We Carry.

Who Is Our Identity Based On?

A Mirror.

We may know it as the “ugly truth” portal, which allows us to see our appearance when we first wake up in the morning. For others it's an object used to stare deeply into their imperfections and for some, an object to reflect what is PRESENT in front of them. Keep in mind that it is the SAME object I am speaking about, yet it’s the INDIVIDUAL who chooses what to see.

Mirror.

We reflect. As human beings, whether we are reflecting on an issue or are simply seeing our reflection in the mirror, we reflect. Yet, what does the word “REFLECTION” mean? Some may say it is to show a side no one knows about, or to simply manifest a character. Yet, once again it is the individual who CHOOSES what to reflect.

Mirror.

We are shattered, broken, and scratched; and sometimes left to just try and mend ourselves. This was before, we were taken in by the one who lifts up the broken. Now, we as people sometimes walk blinded. Blinded by our relationships, tasks, and everyday challenges. Sometimes we walk with “reflections” that were not ours in the first place. In other words, we put on a mask and do exactly as the world does. We “reflect” what others are and do, without Christ. Our eyes get blurry and sooner or later we become the same walking reflections as everyone else. That is why in Romans 12:2 it states, “Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

Mirror.

As individuals, yet even better, as HUMANS, we want to be considered our OWN person with our OWN set of rules written by our OWN pencils. Yet, when we bring down those pencils and bring Him the eraser, he transforms who WE are and our journeys. In other words, when we let go of those “mirrors”, we can truly see who we are--IMPERFECT people, being RENEWED by His perfect plan.

Mirror.

These individuals like you, have gone through something in their lives. Whether it be a parent with Stomach Cancer, Police Brutality, Bullying or Low self-esteem, are only a glimpse of the situations, God can turn around for His glory. All in all, our IDENTITY is found in Him, because “WE are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that WE may proclaim the excellencies of HIM who called us out of the darkness into HIS marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9).

In the end, let us REFLECT what we have inside of us--Him. Therefore, my friends let us be trees planted by the water’s instead of walking mirrors.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
