The downward spiral of an Olympic hero.

Who Is Oscar Pistorius?

Do you recognize the name Oscar Pistorius? No? Even though he is an Olympic sprinter, his name does not ring a bell to many Americans. However, in South Africa, he has been a household name for many years.

Mr. Pistorius has been nicknamed the “Fastest Man on No Legs." That’s right, the native South African athlete had to have his legs amputated before he was one year old. In order to work around his disability, he uses the help of carbon fiber prosthetic legs. With his prosthetics, he was the first double-amputee to compete in the 2012 London Olympics.

Now why should we remember this name? He did not leave the 2012 London Olympics with a medal and he has not done anything beneficial for American sports. However, here is the catch: he was recently given a five-year prison sentence for the negligent killing of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp. Which just so happened to occur on the Valentine's Day of last year.

That’s right, folks. A hero to South Africans has been in a downward spiral for the past few years. Not only has he been convicted of culpable homicide, but there have also been rumors about previous domestic disputes that have yet to be confirmed.

Everyone is asking where Pistorius will end up. Due to his disability, he only has to serve 10 months of his sentence before he can ask for house arrest. Some have argued that he may get special treatment in a South African jail, such as getting a cell to himself. Some also say that he would receive better treatment than the average prisoner.

It will be interesting to compare how Pistorius is treated in judicial system in South Africa to how celebrities are treated here in the United States. Expect an update to this story in the near future.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

The Importance Of Being A Good Person

An open letter to the good-hearted people.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
