"Who is this DJ Khaled person?"
I wondered to myself, roughly two weeks ago, after receiving a text from a friend telling me that I had to follow him on Snapchat ASAP. Was he a celebrity or something? Hell, I don't go on Snapchat that much and I don't follow celebrities. Would it be worth it?
Sparked by sudden boredom one night, I logged in to Snapchat and decided to follow this "djkhaled305" person. I patiently waited for his stories to load, wondering if they were even going to be entertaining.
Oh boy, they were. I started following his stories a day or two before the big jet ski incident (I'll get to that later). My god, this dude is funny. And #relatable. Did he just appear out of nowhere? Who is he?
For starters, DJ Khaled lives in Miami and is best known for being a record producer, radio personality, DJ (hence the name), and record label executive. On his snapchat stories, he documents his daily life, eating amazing food, riding around on his jet ski, simmering in his hot tub, hanging out with his celebrity friends, swinging in his hammock, and watering his plants. This guy lives the life. #GOALS
Each morning, DJ Khaled blesses his followers with his "keys to success." These little giblets of information are accompanied by an overuse of key emojis. Duh. It's all a metaphor.
He starts out the day by watering his plants, telling his followers that this path is not an easy one. Like being a disciplined gardener, one must persevere through hard work and dedication. Then, one should take time to sit in their hot tub because it's all about the "vibe." DJ Khaled also takes out his trash every morning, reminding us that the key to success is to remain humble. Not to be forgotten, he reminds us to always use Listerene and body lotion! Trust him, it's the key. This guy is a philosopher if I've ever seen one.
Later in the day, we are #blessed by Khaled's jet ski and other shenanigan videos. He humbly waves to his fans from his water stallion and reminds us to "Bless Up." (Followed by a key emoji, of course!)
What really thrust Khaled into Snapchat-stardom were his jet ski shenanigans. He was riding on his jet ski as usual, on his way home from Rick Ross' house, when the sun went down. Unable to find his way in the darkness, Khaled took to Snapchat to live-blog the harrowing experience. Never jet ski in the dark, folks.
Lastly, we can't forget about "they." Who are "they"? Why are "they" so bad?
Well, according to master philosopher DJ Khaled, the "they" he speaks of are the haters. He often talks about how "they" don't want you to succeed. The key to success, says Khaled, is to keep moving on and to be successful because the "they" are still going to hate. How poetic.
Follow DJ Khaled on Snapchat for a good time and some life lessons along the way.
