Kini Idile e?
What is my identity?
You ask me this question fervently
I know not a name other than the one assigned to me
But after all my years who have I come to be?
A woman, a student, an athlete perhaps
But still you ask me, what is my identity?
I am of the rocky mountains of Abeokuta and the rolling hills of Georgia
I am of the savory jollof rice that my mother cooks and the southern fried chicken I so much enjoy
I am of the neverending sun in the morning and the twilight's last gleaming at dawn
I am of the beautiful cultures of a diverse continent and the melting pot of a great country
I am Africa and America
Two worlds both form my identity
So when you ask me who am I am and what I mean
I will proudly say
I am simply me
So Kini idile e?
What is your identity?
