The White Tent Madness

"The Mall" at the University of Arizona is a wonderful place for students to spend their time. Whether trying to just relax for 10 minutes before your next Organic Chemistry exam or spending a nice Sunday afternoon there, it has always been a favorite for many. However, with the grandness and overall awesome spectacle that is "the Mall", we students, cannot simply have it for ourselves.

Spring Fling and Tucson Festival of Books, and other events. Whenever some grand occasion like those come around, the iconic white tents pop up. With workers tirelessly putting one up after another, usually a week in advance, we students start to wonder and imagine if it is one of those familiar events, or perhaps something new and exciting that only a sleep-deprived, caffeine addict could come up with. Although many (or all) of these are far-fetched, you have to give us credit for creativity.

So let's begin ...

1. The circus is coming to town, or basically a bunch of ASU grads.

2. Brother Dean has unfortunately amassed a large army of followers, and they are staying for a while.

3. The budget cuts from Governor Ducey have finally come into effect, and the university is trying to compensate by renting the land to snowbirds.

4. FEMA has already decided to prepare for the next "Tucson Flood".

5. "Rich Rod" is making the whole football team camp out on the mall as a "bonding" experience.

6. People are already camping out for next season's basketball tickets.

7. A used car dealership has opened up on "the Mall", and they do not even give student discounts.

8. The newest fraternity, Gamma Delta Iota, finally got the house their nationals promised them.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
