Spring is fastly approaching and the weather is starting to get warmer. Football has been gone for about a month now, and I haven’t been able to watch a sporting game of my favorite team since the Green Bay Packers last played in December. Spring means Baseball is back! Spring Training has just started and the baseball feeling is back! My favorite team in the MLB is the Chicago White Sox. They have had a rough few years but made so many moves within the past year and a half that the future of the team is bright. I haven’t been this excited to see the White Sox play since the Spring of ‘06. Let’s talk about why this season is going to be so great for the White Sox.
To begin, let’s talk about how the White Sox basically cleaned house with all of their talent in the 2017 season. When I heard that the White Sox had traded Chris Sale to the Red Sox, my heart broke. He was my favorite player on the team for years because he was just so good. My heart healed a bit when I heard what the White Sox got for him though. We managed to get Yoan Moncada, who was the number one prospect in the league.
This made me excited for the future because I am so excited for how he turns out. He joined the team in the middle of the season and struggled a bit. Near the end of the season though, he got better which makes me excited for this upcoming season. With a full offseason under his belt, will he come back killing the ball now? I am very eager to see how he plays this season, which makes me want to watch every White Sox game.
Another heartbreaking time from last season was when we traded Jose Quintana to the Chicago Cubs. I truly felt betrayed because he was my next favorite player on the team, and he was traded to our nemesis. Like the first time though, I felt a lot better when I found out who we got in return. Eloy Jimenez was the biggest gem to come from the north side. This kid is very special, and every indication shows that when he gets to the big leagues, he’ll be a star. The swing, the defense, the attitude, it’s all pointing up for him and the team.
Imagine this lineup now, Zack Collins, our future catcher. Jose Abreu, probably our strongest bat right now at first base. Yoan Moncada, future all-star at second base. Jake Burger, who will miss this season with an injury but should come back as a solid bat. Tim Anderson, who has been proving himself as a very reliable shortstop. Eloy Jimenez, Luis Robert, Blake Rutherford, and Nicky Delmonico who should combine to be one of the strongest outfields in the league. Carlos Rodon, Michael Kopech, Reynaldo Lopez, and Lucas Giolito who should combine for a very strong pitching rotation. (Chicago Tribune)
With all of the talent that the White Sox acquired, it should excite every fan of baseball. No matter what team you root for, when a team that is doing poorly trades away everyone to get young talent, they are a must-watch team. Am I afraid that the White Sox might not pan out to be great? Yes, but I do believe the White Sox will be the next up and coming Yankees team because they’re all so young and talented. They will be very fun to watch this season, and I think everyone should be excited about the future of the Chicago White Sox.
