Why As A White Sox Fan Will Not Be Cheering For The Cubs

My thoughts on not cheering for the North Siders

Why As A White Sox Fan Will Not Be Cheering For The Cubs

Growing up a White Sox fan has had it's ups and downs, from winning a World Series in 2005 to experiencing quite a few disappointing seasons recently. Year after year have we had a team that has potential, but with the disaster of a front office and managing, a .500 season is a miracle nowadays for this club. Yes, I understand that our rivals, the Chicago Cubs, have had a tremendous season and have proven to be one of the best teams in baseball, I don't deny that at all. But for this piece I'm gonna give you my thoughts on why I will not be rooting for the Cubs this post-season.

All of my life I have rooted for the Chicago White Sox, not just after the World Series victory that I was alive for, but since birth they have been the team I've rooted for. For many years, the Chicago Cubs were a not so great team, with the exceptions of the early Alfonso Soriano/Lou Piniella years, and if the White Sox were performing poorly, so were the Cubs at that time. Once Theo Epstein and Joe Maddon arrived last year, things very quickly changed for the North Siders, winning 97 games last year, and now 103 in just two years, pretty impressive. I know that the Cubs have received all of this hype about, "This is our year," and how a ridiculous Back to the Future movie predicted the Cubs to win the World Series in 2015 despite it wouldn't be possible because of the opponent- Miami, who's also in the National League.

So, the reason why I am not rooting for the Cubs this postseason is because of pretty much one simple thing.... I don't care! To me it's not a fluke if they win, because they do have the talent to accomplish a World Series victory. I am not one of those "Chicago" fans that just root for any Chicago team that does well, not a bandwagon fan here. I'm a White Sox fan always, but I am also a Baseball fan. I appreciate some good baseball, that can even include the Cubs. Now I know this opinion might be confusing, but to make a little more sense, it's not the Cubs that I hate, it's the annoying idiotic Cubs fans I despise, ones that don't really know Baseball outside of the Cubs. Kind of like the ones who believe there's an actual curse involving Billy the Goat from the '45 World Series, or blaming a fan (Steve Bartman) that went after a foul ball that every single one of you would go after, don't even try to deny you wouldn't.

I've heard it all, the Cubs are the best team in Baseball, there lineup is unstoppable, best pitching rotation, blah blah blah. October is a whole different ballgame, some teams really rise up and play their absolute best, like the Giants or the Red Sox. For the post-season, it doesn't matter what the records are or what the stats are, whoever shows up and plays better than their opponent will win that ball game no doubt. So as I end this shenanigans, for you Cubs fans, if you win it all you win it all. I'll catch hell for this for a long time, believe me I know that, but until then, the curse still lives on and it wasn't Steve Bartman's fault.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
