Black Lives Matter

White people for black lives.

Black Lives Matter

As most of you know there are huge protests going on currently. Black Lives Matter has been flooded across this country, and I am sure the media has spread it over the world. There are so many controversies going on about it, and to be frank, I am not sure how a black person would even take a white person writing about it, but I always give myself the benefit of the doubt because I am gay. I think this is something so serious, and so crucial to the future of our country, of our relationships, and how we look at our neighbors.

We need to look at how the United States was even founded. We were bringing over human slaves, and at the same time, we were creating a massive genocide of the Native Americans. I am not trying to bring anyone's mood down or be a pessimist. I just think whoever is a white American denying that the history and even current situations are false, is scary. There is so much we have done to human beings that we back up with words or with reasons that are absolutely wrong and manipulative. There are white people who refuse to accept that black people are just as human as themselves, and the Native Americans are not even mentioned, they are not even talked about! I know how I sound, I sound angry and to be honest, I do not care. This is not an article that is designed to get people upset, this is just an article that I hope touches your heart. Maybe you do realize how crazy some of this stuff is, and maybe you are trying to change it. It is something that will be a war for a long time, we have evil individuals out there who like the 'power' they claim to have.

It is always one of the saddest things when you are talking to a person about just living in a more peaceful place, and this person is just not cooperating because of the views and manipulation they grew up around. You need to realize how many influences you have around yourself daily. If you listen to radio, watch the TV, have a smartphone, use social media, look at magazines, go to certain places to eat, even neighborhoods have influences on your perspective and you may not even know about it. I think that is the scariest part for me, the fact that people can be manipulated without even knowing. When I think that I was born into this world not trusting of black people because I am white saddens me. Now is a time for change. The truth is rising and for those who want to hear it and live it you should be ready. We are unraveling the horrible facts that have happened in the past, ones we never thought had happened but did. Be ready for change, you may not have a choice.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
