The new MTV film, "White People," has gone even deeper into the ridiculousness regarding race of recent years. The show features young white people discussing white privilege, racism, and other controversial topics. Let me just start off with the obvious WTF that has to be going through most peoples minds. If this show was done about any other race it would be immediately pulled off the air because of how offensive it is. Not that they are necessarily being offensive, but white people is the only race allowed to be criticized without sparking riots and outbursts from others.
Some people say that the show is devoted entirely to showing the world how white people feel about everything, but personally I think it is an open forum where white people are expected to act like the bad guys in every situation and apologize for everything done by their ancestors. People need to wake up and realize that yes, there are racist white people, BUT there are also racists people within black, Hispanic, middle eastern cultures, and people all over the world. It shouldn't boil down to generalizing the whole race as the media loves to do. I'm not saying not making this film would improve anything, but it certainly can't help.
