Which Dayton Dorm Fits You Best?

The University of Dayton features some of the best living accommodations that you'll find on a college campus. As a first-year student you are required to live in one of the four dorms: Marycrest, Marianist, Stuart or Founders. Each dorm has its pros and cons, but ask any UD student and they'll tell you their respective dorm was the best.

Here's some background on each dorm:

Marycrest

The most popular of the first-year dorms, Marycrest houses the most students of any of the first-year residencies. With its large rooms, and fully stocked dining hall, it is a common hangout spot for freshmen from all corners of campus. There are often tour groups wandering through the dining halls between classes, and you can catch up with your friends while sharing a monster cookie. Another positive aspect about MC is the short walk to class or the gym.

Marianist

Marianist Hall features high ceilings that make rooms feel spacious, as well as The Emporium, a convenience store/deli, in the lobby. On the second floor, there are tutoring and studying spaces that save students a walk to the library. Marianist is split into two wings, one being a freshman wing, while the other is sophomore housing. Marianist is in a great location with short walks to class, the library or the RecPlex.

Stuart

Stuart Hall sits on the top of Stuart Hill, overlooking campus. The walk up the hill is worth it for the views of the beautiful UD sunsets. Stuart Hall is comprised of three wings, Adele, Sheehy and Meyer. Stuart is the easiest dorm to make friends with your neighbors because once people get to their rooms they usually stay in Stuart to avoid the long walk up the hill. A major perk of Stuart is the proximity to VWK dining hall which features some of the best food on campus.

Founders

Founders Hall is located in the heart of campus which makes it a very easy walk to those early morning classes. Founders has the smallest rooms of any first-year dorm, but that encourages students to get out of their rooms and socialize with others. The wide hallways make for popular socialization spots.

Now that you have some background about each dorm, take this quiz to see which dorm fits you the best.

No matter where you live during your first year at UD, you will absolutely love it - and one day you'll miss living next door to all of your closest friends.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
