The Chris Brown and Soulja Boy feud is heating up, as the two celebrities have agreed to a charity boxing match to be held on Saturday, January 28.
The feud started when Soulja Boy liked an Instagram post of Chris Brown’s ex-girlfriend, Karrueche Tran. Fighting words have since been exchanged, and those words have developed into an actual 3 round boxing match.
Brown and Soulja Boy are not the only big names involved in the match, as Floyd Mayweather is promoting the match and training Soulja Boy. But he is not the only boxing legend taking sides, as Mike Tyson has agreed to train Chris Brown. 50 Cent has also shown his support for Brown, and is working with Mayweather to set up a few other celebrity fights for the pay-per-view.
A few weeks I wrote an article saying that a Floyd Mayweather and Connor McGregror could be the end of boxing.
Then I heard about this fight, and it almost changed my mind.
I would imagine these two probably have very little experience boxing, and three weeks of training is not likely to help immensely, even considering their highly skilled trainers. Once they get in the ring it is likely they will forget all about their training, turning the fight into an all-out brawl, which may not be a bad thing.
The best thing that could happen for this fight is that someone gets knocked out in the first 30 seconds. A spectacular knockout would be much more entertaining than nine minutes of bad boxing.
No matter how long the fight lasts, both Brown and Soulja Boy are making money, as in millions of dollars of money. The smartest thing for the two of them to do would be to get in the ring, land a few good punches on each other to boost the entertainment factor, and get out of there with a couple of bruises and a million dollars.
I doubt that will happen, because this feud has gotten very personal as of late, as Soulja Boy spent time with Chris Brown’s ex, Nia Guzman, and his daughter, Royalty, at Floyd Mayweather’s house. So conversely this could turn into a bloodbath. Whether it is poor fundamentals or unbridled fury, this match is not going to be pretty.
In reality, I actually don’t think this is a bad idea. Sure, the beef itself is kind of ridiculous, but it gives these two a space to settle their beef in a controlled environment, in a hopefully entertaining fashion. They make money, they donate money to charity, and the public gets to see two celebrities duke it out in the ring, which does not happen very often.
As far as my prediction, I think I have to side with Breezy on this one. He is the bigger man, standing about four inches taller than Soulja Boy, and likely has a reach advantage on him. It is yet to be seen whether he will be able to use his size advantage in the fight, but it still remains a factor. While both have skilled trainers, I thin Tyson will be a better suited trainer for this fight because he knows how to knock people out, and this fight is probably going to be won with one big punch, not fundamental defense. But also, it just seems as if Brown is a little more passionate and angry, which could lead to some added intensity in the ring.
Soulja Boy and Chris Brown are fighting on a legitimate pay-per-view, and no, the world is not ending. Will I be purchasing it? highly unlikely. But, will I watch the highlights on YouTube the next day? Almost certainly.
