Hello friend,
Yes, I am talking to you. The one at the college cafeteria who's friends are telling stories about the house they grew up in. Who are telling stories about the friend they have gone to school with since preschool. The person who can only hope mom and dad have enough money so you can go visit grandma for Christmas. I know it seems so unfair because you can't even remember what preschool you went to, that was five moves ago. You don't have stories under an old porch swing, but you have stories of the time the movers broke your mom's vase or how the lady at the airport gave you an extra bag of peanuts because you made her laugh.
So, to the person without a hometown:
To the person who feels like there is always a suitcase packed in the basement
To the person who finds it hard to hold onto a steady group of friends
To the person who just wants to feel settled for once in their life
To the person who does not know what it is like to meet Grandma for a quick lunch
You have stories that no one else has
You have made friends you would otherwise have never met
Some of you got to see other parts of the country or even the world
Some of you have the honor of your parents serving our country
You may not have a hometown group of friends or an old porch swing, but you have been on a journey that many people may never get to experience. You have become an expert at Skype and FaceTime for the family and friends you left behind at each place. Most importantly, you are still here, and when you are old enough, you can choose to move and make your life anywhere in the world that you want to. Here's to you, the world traveler before you went to college.
Sincerely,
A Girl Who Knows A Few Things
